Manx Radio is the countrywide public service broadcaster of the Isle of Man and shows from its own studios at Transmitting House in Douglas. The station first gone on air in June 1964, long before commercial radio grew to be part of daily life in Britain. This was made achievable because the Isle of Man has interior self-government: it is a Crown Reliance and is not part of the United Kingdom. But Manx Radio did require a licence from the UK regulators and this was ultimately agreed to with unwillingness, suspicion and not a small alarm. Keep in mind these were the heady days of pirate radio delivers anchored just outdoors the 3 mile limit!
