Heartland FM was established in 1991 and when native fundraising reached £32,000 the station began broadcasting at weekends in 1992. Eventually region FM became a full-time native radio service for Highland Perthshire transmission on ninety seven.5 megahertz FM from a studio base in Pitlochry. At the time the station was Britain’s smallest freelance native station with fifty volunteer presenters.
